MAGIC
Monitoring Agri-Food Green Innovation and Circularity
The Project
What challenges MAGIC address?
Indicators of circularity, sustainability, and green investments can be measured across alternative products, industries and countries, but the outcomes include a degree of uncertainty. Uncertainty strongly influences the decision-making process. For this reason, measuring the degree of uncertainty for the circularity, sustainability and green investments indicators is fundamental to promoting a rational decision-making process.
Evaluation of alternatives for improving circularity and sustainability efficiencies is certainly a complex task in the decision-making process. It requires ranking and benchmarking agri-food production and consumption systems based on overall performances, but also considering the nature of the investment and contextual aspects that could impact its feasibility.
The Project Impact
Knowledge Improvements
With its approach and results, the MAGIC project will help fill important knowledge gaps in the decision-making process towards innovative productions, industrial value chains, and business models in the agri-food system. This will contribute to a circularity transition. The project aims to contribute to the assessment of circularity and sustainability developments in agricultural and food production.
Pratical Impacts
MAGIC outputs will have practical impacts in the following areas: simple and uniform indicators for standardisation, agri-food companies will be able to compare eco-targets and eco-inefficiencies and direct green innovation, increased awareness of the benefits of investing in a circular system, better indicators for monitoring progress.
The Team
The project team is composed of two research units, one from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) and the other from Università degli Studi di Milano (UniMI).
The experience of the research unit of UCSC well integrates with the one from the research unit of UNIMI. Claudio Soregaroli (UCSC) and Stefanella Stranieri (UniMI) already have a track record of joint research work with several publications dealing with supply chain issues and sustainability.
The expertise of the research unit of UCSC on MRIO and indicators combined with the expertise of UNIMI on innovation provides the main value added of the project team as it generates synergies in the research unit capabilities allowing it to effectively address the main objectives of MAGIC.
